Dear Parents and Guardians,
The purpose of physical education is to educate the whole child on all aspects of health and fitness. In order to ensure that all students are gaining the necessary knowledge to be healthy, productive citizens, Mrs. Barlow and Mrs. Osborne will be using a grading system based on a four-point rubric. Grading students daily in physical education class allows the teacher and student to evaluate their participation/effort, sportsmanship and knowledge regularly.
The grading system will be based on points. A total of 4pts per class in the areas of both sportsmanship and participation/effort can be earned. Knowledge grades will be based on the units taught during each 10 week marking period. Knowledge may not always be graded on a daily basis. Students are NOT graded on skill.
Below is an example based on a 25 class marking period.
25 (days) x 4 (pts. Per day) = 100
90 – 100% = 4
80 – 89% = 3
70 – 79% = 2
65 - 69% = 1
< 65% = Unsatisfactory
Please refer to the attached grading rubric in order to better understand how students may earn/lose points. Excused absences from physical education class include those that are legal school excuses as well as any medical reasons. In any of these cases, the student will receive the 4pts. for that day with no penalty.
Students can check their grades at any time by speaking with their physical education teacher. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via phone or e-mail.
Sincerely,
The Elementary P.E. Staff Last Updated: 10/27/14
